Switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy

People switch to save money. A Wegovy 2.4mg first order costs £113 today against £224 for Mounjaro 15mg. The awkward part is the starting dose, because no official conversion exists.

Before you order: ask the pharmacy two questions

  1. What Wegovy dose will you start me on? Some prescribers restart everyone at 0.25mg. Others start people with GLP-1 experience part way up the schedule. Pharmacies differ.
  2. What proof do you need? Usually a photo of your latest Mounjaro label or an order confirmation.

Timing

Inject the first Wegovy pen on the day the next Mounjaro pen would have been due, unless told otherwise. Do not inject both in one week.

What the first Wegovy order costs

Your first Wegovy order at a pharmacy new to you earns the first order price. Today's cheapest are £44 for 0.25mg, £63 for 0.5mg, £70 for 1mg, £93 for 1.7mg, £113 for 2.4mg. The dose the prescriber picks decides which figure applies.

Do not leave a gap

Order early. In SURMOUNT-4, stopping tirzepatide led to 14% weight regain over a year. A fortnight without either medicine is enough for appetite to return.

What changes in the medicine

You move from tirzepatide, acting on GLP-1 and GIP, to semaglutide, acting on GLP-1. In SURMOUNT-5 the tirzepatide group lost more weight on average. The contraceptive pill rule in Mounjaro's licence does not appear in Wegovy's.

Red flag. Strong, lasting stomach pain, sometimes reaching through to your back, needs same day medical attention. The MHRA names this as the main warning sign of pancreatitis. Tell the MHRA about any suspected reaction on the Yellow Card site.
